AI For Social Media Marketing That Still Sounds Like You

The short version

  • Teach the AI your voice once with a short brand voice note, then reuse it in every prompt.
  • Give it raw material from your real business. Posts built on real details beat generic tips every time.
  • Ask for five hooks, pick one yourself, then ask for the full post. You stay the editor.
  • Use it to read your own results: paste last month’s numbers and ask what to do more of.
  • Never let it post or reply for you unchecked. It will get a price, a date, or a tone wrong eventually.

AI for social media marketing earns its keep in the slow parts of the job: finding an angle, writing the first draft, reshaping one idea for four platforms, and making sense of your numbers. It does badly when you ask it to invent your business for you. Feed it real details, keep the final say, and you’ll post more often without sounding like a robot.

Step 1: Write A Voice Note The AI Can Follow

Generic output comes from generic input. Before you write a single post, build a short voice note you’ll paste in every time. Ask the AI to help:

I’m going to paste 6 of my best-performing social posts. Study them and write a brand voice note under 150 words: tone, sentence length, words I use, words I never use, how I use emojis, and how I end posts. [paste posts]

Read the result and correct it. If it says you’re “playful” and you’re really dry and matter-of-fact, fix it. Save the final version in a notes app. That voice note is the single most useful thing you’ll build.

If your tool supports it, put the voice note into a saved assistant so you don’t have to paste it. Our guide on building a custom GPT shows how.

Step 2: Feed It Real Material

The posts that perform are the ones only you could write. So give the AI raw material from your week. A topic alone is too thin.

Say you run a neighborhood bakery. Weak prompt: “Write a post about our bread.” Strong prompt:

Using my voice note below, write an Instagram caption. Facts: we started a new sourdough this week using a starter that’s 6 years old, it takes 36 hours from mixing to oven, we only bake 40 loaves on Saturdays, and they sold out by 10am last week. Goal: get people to pre-order by Friday. Under 90 words. End with how to pre-order: reply to this post or call the shop. [paste voice note]

Every number there is real and specific. The AI shapes it. It doesn’t have to guess. Keep a running list on your phone of small moments worth posting: a customer question, a behind-the-scenes photo, a mistake you fixed. That list is your content supply.

Step 3: Get Hooks First, Then The Post

The first line decides whether anyone reads the rest. Instead of asking for a finished post right away, ask for options:

Give me 8 different opening lines for this post. Mix styles: a surprising fact, a short story start, a bold opinion, a question my customers actually ask. One line each.

Pick the one you like, or combine two, and then ask for the full post built on it. This keeps you in charge of the angle, which is the part AI is weakest at choosing.

Adapt one idea for each platform

One solid idea can become several posts. Ask for them in one go:

  • A LinkedIn version with a lesson for other business owners.
  • A short Instagram caption to go with a photo.
  • A Facebook post aimed at locals, with the pre-order details up front.
  • A 30-second video script with three short scenes.

Tell it the differences you care about, like length, tone, and whether hashtags belong. For a full system on turning one piece into many, see our guide on repurposing content with AI.

Using AI For Social Media Marketing Analysis

Most small businesses never look at their numbers because it’s tedious. AI makes it quick. Export or copy last month’s post results from your platform’s insights page: the post text, date, reach, likes, comments, shares, and saves. Then paste them in.

Here are my 18 posts from last month with their numbers. Which three types of posts did best on saves and comments? Likes matter less to me. What do the top performers have in common? Give me four specific post ideas for next month based on what worked. [paste data]

Check its reading against your own gut. If it says video did best and you only posted two videos, that’s a small sample. Ask it to flag when it’s working from too few posts.

Replies, Comments, And Messages

AI can draft replies to common comments and messages so you answer faster. Build a short set of approved replies for your most frequent questions: hours, prices, delivery areas, booking. Ask the AI to write each in your voice, then edit and save them.

For trickier replies, like a complaint left in public, draft with AI and always read before you send. A calm, specific reply in public helps more than a fast one. Our guide on answering an angry customer applies to comments too.

Some rules to keep:

  1. Never let a tool post automatically without a person reading it first.
  2. Check every price, date, and offer against your real details.
  3. Don’t use AI to fake reviews, comments, or customer stories. It breaks platform rules and trust.
  4. Say no to trends that don’t fit your voice, even if the AI suggests them.
  5. Keep images honest. If a photo is AI-made, don’t pass it off as your real product.

A Weekly Routine That Fits In An Hour

Here’s a simple rhythm for AI for social media marketing without it taking over your week:

  • Monday, 15 minutes: dump your list of real moments from last week into the chat with your voice note.
  • Monday, 30 minutes: pick your angles, get hooks, draft four or five posts, and adapt the best one for a second platform.
  • Friday, 15 minutes: paste the week’s numbers and ask what to repeat.

An hour a week, real details in, your judgment on top. That’s the whole method.

Post Better With Less Effort

AI For Social Media gives you the full system: building a voice note, prompts for hooks and captions on each platform, turning one idea into a week of posts, and reading your results. It includes a worked example for a small business, a prompt pack, and a cheat sheet. If video is your main channel, pair it with AI For Video And Podcasts.
