A Quickstart Guide : How To Get A Real Estate License In Kansas

Step 1: Make sure you meet the basic requirements

The basic requirements to get a Kansas real estate license are simple. Do you meet these requirements?

  • You are at least 18 years old
  • You have a high school diploma or equivalent

Step 2: Register for real estate licensing classes

A real estate license is required for most real estate jobs. Kansas has educational requirements you must fulfill before they will let you get a real estate license, which are completed with the following:

  • A 60 hour pre-licensing course, OR
  • Fulfill the pre-license course requirements in another jurisdiction that is approved by Kansas

Step 3: Apply to take the Kansas real estate exam

You can apply to take the Kansas real estate exam after you have completed the licensing education requirements. The Kansas real estate exam fee is $82 (and $75 if you need to retake it).

You have to pass the state exam before you pre-licensing course certificate expires. The expiration date will be clearly stated on your course completion certificate.

Step 4: Complete the Kansas real estate license application

The application will ask you some basic questions about you and your background, including any other real estate licenses you have held or currently hold. The Kansas license application fee is $15, and the fee for the license itself is $125.

You must submit your background check ($60) with your application and you must affiliate with a sponsoring broker within six months of passing the exam. You cannot activate your license in an “inactive” status.

Step 6: Choose a sponsoring broker
