Step 1: Make sure you meet the basic requirements
The basic requirements to get a Missouri real estate license are simple. Do you meet these requirements?
- You are at least 18 years old
- You have submitted your fingerprints for a background check, and passed that background check. The fingerprinting fee is $43.05.
Step 2: Register for real estate licensing classes
A real estate license is required for most real estate jobs. Missouri has three different options for obtaining a real estate license.
- Complete a 48 hour pre-licensing course, AND a 24 hour Missouri Real Estate Practice Course, OR
- Be a licensed attorney and pass both the state and national portions of the state exam (no education requirements needed), OR
- Hold a real estate license in another state and pass the Missouri portion of the state exam

Step 3: Apply to take the Missouri real estate exam
You can apply to take the Missouri real estate exam after you have completed the licensing education requirements, if you are a licensed attorney or if you hold a real estate license in any other state. The exam fee is $68.
Step 4: Complete the Missouri real estate license application
The application will ask you some basic questions about you and your background, including any other real estate licenses you have held or currently hold. The Missouri license application fee is $90.
Missouri requires a criminal background check for all real estate license applicants. Applicants with a criminal history will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
