Some states have reciprocal agreements with other states. That means you may be able to get a license in another state with a little paperwork and sometimes a little state test. The agreements are varied and some states don’t do them at all, but it’s worth looking into if you’re going to be doing business in other states. This is a common thing for people who live in close proximity to state borders.
For example, you can get a Connecticut license through reciprocity from Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma and Rhode Island. While Connecticut doesn’t allow for online real estate courses for pre-licensing education, many of the reciprocal states DO allow it.
So the smart move is to get the online real estate licensing done in a state that allows it and complete the paperwork for Connecticut to become legitimate there. It will probably make the most sense to do the online real estate course from Rhode Island or Massachusetts due to the proximity of the states to Connecticut.
