29 Oct How To Get A Florida Real Estate License
If you want to know how to get a Florida real estate license, all the steps are here. The first thing you need to do is pass the Florida salesperson pre-licensing course. The course is offered online and you can go at your own pace. Many people take the course and prepare for the state exam while they are still working other jobs.
There are some basic requirements that need to be met as well:
You must be at least eighteen years old.
You must have good character, as determined by the Florida Real Estate Commission.
You must have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
BUT you don’t have to be a Florida resident.
If you’re all clear on those items, this is what’s next:
Pass the pre-licensing course.
Pass the state exam.
Get your fingerprints taken at an approved fingerprinting location.
File a notarized application with the Florida Real Estate Commission with the appropriate application fee.
Once you get approval from the state that you’re good to go, that’s it! You can then begin your real estate career.
If you are a real estate salesperson in Florida (versus a broker), you will have to affiliate with a broker and work under the supervision of a broker before you can do any real estate work that requires a license. If you have broker-level licensing, you can work with another broker or you can work for yourself. Only real estate brokers can employ real estate salespeople.
There are many more real estate salespeople in Florida than there are real estate brokers. Broker licenses require a higher level of education and experience, and most real estate salespeople are completely happy working under the supervision of a broke for their entire careers. Real estate broker-level licensing is usually pursued by people who want to open their own brokerage, or manage a brokerage for someone else.
Florida is one of the states where we recommend an online real estate school. Not all states have high-quality online real estate schools, but Florida is one of them.
If you’d like some reading in addition to your Florida real estate license course, these books are all highly recommended for those pursuing a real estate career. We update the list on a regular basis, so be sure to check back every once in a while. Good luck!
